I Heart December!
There are 10000 reasons for me to love December.
Here are the top few ones on the list:
1. It is Christmas time, a time for loving and care!
2. Our close knitted group of friends have numerous excuses to hang around together.. chit chatting... stuffing ourselves with good food and desserts.. creating the loudest laughter that make the whole building vibrates...
3. I am finally motivated to send my love out with hand-written christmas cards across the continents. You may say this is old-fashioned, not-so-green, but I say this is CLASSIC and SWEET!
4. YAN is back!
5. 2010 almost comes to an end. Save the best, and leave out the worst. Ready to execute a brand new start on 1 Jan 2011.
6. Even a breathe of the fresh air breeze, warm sunshine at noon, and the dazzling lights and decorations along the streets at night, makes every steps more cheerful.

The benefits of losing an iphone.
I lost my iphone, after five months living upon it.
It is like losing a limb.
Staring blindly on my MTR trip from Prince Edward to Central,
feeling the lightness of my handbag,
no more rush for minutes and seconds for games,
the lightning speed of SMS becomes turtle crawling speed in my hundred-year-old Motorola,
even my memories, in the forms of notes and photos, are forever gone.
It is certainly depressing, especially it was my birthday gift from my sisters.
I am still very guilty for my split second of light mindedness in Insomnia.
But there is one good thing about losing an Iphone----
I AM FREED FROM THE IPHONE.
For months, it is not at all exaggerating to conclude that 80% of my leisure time was partially/ fully occupied by this technology.
(I believe the 20% percent of the leisure time where Iphone is easily out of my mind is Majonging with my family and sleeping.)
But now,
my Fingers and Mind are much better controlled by Lina, not Lina's Iphone.
Even in these first few Iphone-free days,
I read Emma Watson's Vogue Interview,
started the book Outliers,
discovered some mysterious restaurants along my ride to Pokfulam,
and obersved the other Iphone slaves in MTR.
In any case, I still miss my beloved Iphone.
But a slight skepticism is slowly building up in my brain that I might possibly start enjoying the Iphone-free days, and ultmiately, becomes the outlier that does not want an Iphone.
*******
The introduction and the first chapter of Outliers was a blast!
My summary so far is:
1. An outlier is never a REAL outlier. It is called an outlier just because that it cannot be sufficiently explained by conventional theory or belief. An outlier, like everything else, has an underlying trend.
2. An outlier can be created. It does not rely solely on innate qualities.
We are always taught to honor our achievements based on individual hardwork and talents.
Studying in the United States where individualism and hardwork are celebrated, I am a strong believer in diligence and ability all the times.
But it is like the statistical assumption that all factors are independent of one another.
The reality is all factors are closely knitted.
One's success is a combination of talents, society and experience.
Based on Outliers' theory that players with birth dates right after the cut off date of hockey league selection are more likely to become world-closs professionals, I will boldly suggest that people with birth dates at the start of the year have more younger-aged connections in their inner social circle, while people with birth dates close to the end of the year would have social circles with elder people. My reasoning would be that throughout the 20 years of education, people with earlier birth dates were put together with classes of younger people where they interact constantly. Therefore, even outside of school, they are more comfortable hanging with people younger than them.
For example?
I think I am the life example.
My birth date is 20th January.
Not only that my classmates were mostly younger than me,
but most of my closest friends are younger than me.
Because I am not used to mingle with elder people,
asking for advices and guidance.
But I enjoyed the relaxation and fun with the younger.
But all in all, this proposed trend would not be too distinctive as other factors ( family background, class year, etc) will also affect the correlation..
So do we still need to work hard if we realize our success lies heavily on our lucks too?
YES! A definite yes!
Because it is not about the end, the result,
it is about the process.
If we do not push our limits on our abilities and talents,
there is little chance of success even if luck lies with you.
Remember, an outlier can be created, with training and experience.

Sad
But it's time to admit
That I am sad.
2010 is not a good year.
Everything seems to be very unstable.
The more I try to enjoy myself, and when things get better,
obstacles and interferences will strike my courage.
Do not give up. Keep moving. 2011 is just a bit ahead.

Unforgotten
Reasons as following:
1. Work is hectic.
2. Not much inspirations.
3. Trying my best to create a better sleeping schedule.
Disregarding a few disputes and tensions at work with the hotel staff, which are annoying when you are in negotiating terms with them, things are going on well.
Life is so peaceful and steady, but again, straight line is kinda boring when it goes on for another 100 miles into the horizon.
Also, not complaining my surprisingly regular office hours,
but I am really waiting for something more exciting (even if more tiring too).
Work occupies your mind and body,
so that the unforgotten can be left behind for a short while,
and showed up again right in your relaxation time.
This situation is commonly known as insomnia.
Regretfully, there is not really a lot of remedies to this except to keep reminding yourself:
Life is short.
Enjoy. Enjoy and enjoy, please, the best out of it.
It 's hard, but you still need to try.
Cheers, to insomnia!

22
22 to me, is a double question.
Yes, they do come only in pairs.
Why? Let me elaborate a bit.
When I was 16,
everything in life was so vivid, like the summer flowers,
having neverending laughters with friends,
and loving care from your parents.
Love was so certain, direct and simple at that time.
When I was 18,
I AM an adult!
Embracing freedom, bad habits, new excitements,
No more parental guidance!
I AM LEGAL to make decisions for yourself!
I DIVE for your passions, FLY for your dreams,
FALL for your love.
Right or wrong?
Who cares,
I AM the Chance card in Monopoly.
I AM an 18-year-old!
Using present tense at 18 is always right, because it IS the moment.
Then I turned 21,
I am confident to say that,
for most people,
this is the first birthday that you bear some uncomfortable feeling in your stomach,
while having crazy celebrations for it.
Because that you have been literally an adult for 3 years,
and now you finally are an adult.
Not only you make your decisions, but you are RESPONSIBLE for your decisions solely.
Everything in life was put into this soft tinted tone like the vintage photos.
It was glamorous still, but with challenges and pressure.
FUTURE was in my mind more often than any time before.
Career seems to be zooming in to my face so quickly that I almost lose grip of a comprehensive preparation.
And after the few years of freedom,
suddenly,
I sometimes hope that the routine in college life can stay for a bit longer,
and the advices of your parents seem to be eagerly taken again.
When I became 22,
there were no big celebrations for birthday,
but it was the start of a very special year.
22 is ??
Full of questions.
Questions full of paradox and contradictions.
While having the courage and confidence to fight for your dreams,
fear of failure and causing disappointment for your family haunts you.
Carrying the remenisence of the bitter and pain of love on your shoulders,
love become complicated and meticulous.
Love is still attractive, yet cautious.
You want to give a try in everything, believing in Steve Job's legend in connecting the dots,
yet you want to rush to find your life-long passion within the conventional frame set by the society.
The ALL-IN bets in your 18 are completely not romantic and gutty anymore but very naive.
However, the idea of becoming one of the OLs in Central doesn't make your ambitious mind settle.
??
There are so many questions to be answered at 22.
Hopefully they can all be resolved before 23.
Here is the certainty the forever should be,
Pain shouldn't stop you from seeking happiness,
Fear shouldn't forbid you from taking risks,
Life is questionable but full of hopes.
Lastly,
to all ages,
it is all about your ATTITUDE.

I love sharing..
I love to share. Share my passionate cravings for food, my courage in exploring the unknown and fear in bloody movies, my accomplishment in school and my frustration in career, my hobby to cook and eat and dance and sing, my unexpect surprise in travelling, my advice on my "expertise" and embarassment, my friends, my family..
But all the time, there are things that I do not want to share, or worse, that I do not want the person I share with to share with someone else. At you point, you might say.. "DAH! no one wants their secrets to be spread around."
But do not get me wrong, things that i am referring to are not those big private secret or gossip, but "little things" that is simple like my favourite place for day dreaming, my most random millionaire plan, or just a casual habit ...
When those "little things" are accidentally brought up to the strangers, I would just have a tickling feeling like the magician's magic trick is revealed in front of the audience.
Magic is no magic anymore when its trick is revealed.

Mr Curiosity
This is the song of the day - Mr Curiosity by Jason Marz.
Curiosity
Is it true what they've been saying about you
Are you killing me?
You took care of the cat already
And for those who think it's heavy
Is it the truth
Or is it only gossip
Call it mystery or anything
Just as long as you'd call me
I sent the message on did you get it when I left it
See this catastrophic event
It wasn't meant to mean no harm
But to think there's nothing wrong is a problem
I'm looking for love this time
Sounding hopeful but it's making me cry
Love is a mystery
Mr. Curious...
Come back to me
Mr. waiting ever patient can't you see
That I'm the same the way you left me
In a hurry to spell check me
And I'm underlined already in envy green
And pencil red
And I've forgotten what you've said
Will you stop working for the dead and return
Mr. curious well I need some inspiration
It's my birthday and I cannot find no cause for celebration
The scenario is grave but I'll be braver when you save me
From this situation laden with hearsay
I'm looking for love this time
Sounding hopeful but it's making me cry
And love is a mystery
Mr. Curiosity
Be Mr. please
Do come and find me, oh
Find me, find me, me
I'm looking for love this time
Sounding hopeful but it's making me cry
Trying not to ask why
Cause love is a mystery
Mr. curiosity
Be Mr. please
Do come and find me
Love is blinding when the timing's never right
Oh who am I to beg for difference
Finding love in just an instant
Well I dont mind, at least I've tried
Well I tried, I tried...

A blissful Sunday
I woke up after a good long sleep. Then, like the prior three days, very determined to work out. So I decided that I didn't have time for dim sum and my mom rushed into a sushi place with me. Hoping to get out on time but failed, I went for dim sum with my family, crazily blowed water. And then finally GOT to gym, in Megabox.
Yes, Megabox is soooo FAR. But the gym there is cleaner, less populated, well-maintained and much more spacious in the danceroom. So without the usual worry of smacking on faces and kicking on asses next to me, the two hour work out was very successful and tiring.
So it is already night when we got to my sister's home. Surprise! Yes. Majong again. I am the big winner tonight! haha! The dinner was fabulous, and for the first time, I think the "fu gua cao beef" was so delicious!
My mom and my dad were very interested in the word " HEA" during our ride back home.
They tried to use "HEA" in every situation and every sentence structure....
And by the time we arrived home, my dad could already applied "HEA" with fu jian wa....

A remarkable speech of Steve Jobs
I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. Truth be told, I never graduated from college. This is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation.
Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.
The first story is about connecting the dots.
I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit.
So why did I drop out?
It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife.
Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: “We’ve got an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?”
They said, “Of course.”
My biological mother found out later that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college. This was the start of my life.
And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents’ savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out.
And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
The minute I dropped out, I could stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked far more interesting. It wasn’t all romantic. I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5-cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on.
Let me give you one example:
Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn’t have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great.
It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can’t capture, and I found it fascinating. None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography.
If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it’s likely the not personal computer would have them.
If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.
Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something. Your gut, destiny, life karma, whatever. Because believe in the dot connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path and that would make all the difference.
My second story is about love and loss.
I was lucky. I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents’ garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation, the Macintosh, a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then, I got fired.
How can you get fired from a company you started?
Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30, I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating. I really didn’t know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down – that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me.
I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something began to dawn on me. I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I’d been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over. I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world’s first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world.
In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonder family together. I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.
Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. YOU’VE GOT TO FIND WHAT YOU LOVE. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, KEEP LOOKING AND DON’T SETTLE. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.
And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So KEEP LOOKING, DON’T SETTLE.
My third story is about death.
When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “ If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression to me. And since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.
About a year ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor’s code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you though you’d have the next 10 years to tell them, in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.
I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that they viewed the cells under a microscope, the doctors started crying, because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and thankfully, I’m fine now.
This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept: No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which of one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch.
This was in the late 1960’s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and Polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions. Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words:
“Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin a new, I wish that for you. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish. Thank you all very much.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.
Salary.. Career Prospect..Future Advancement..Job function..Benefit..Holiday..Dream..
So many factors to consider.... But when you give some careful thoughts, all these boil down to a few or may be one... is that " Is this what you want?"
The answer to this question is extremely difficult to trace back for its underlying reasons. It may be intuitively-driven, or emotionally-impulsive, or a rational conclusion after meticulous calculations of cost-benefit analysis.
To me, it is like the "Chance" card in Monopoly. I, unpreventably, receive this opportunity. It can be good or bad, or both. The only fact is that this "Chance" card is at my hands now. The only way to prove the "Chance" is valuable is to nurture it using my own capability, learning as well as contributing the best to elavate this "Chance".
Stay Hungry. Do not feed yourself with routines and traditions. Do not settle for less.
Stay Foolish. Do learn and stay sensitive to the world.

The facebook
One of the most meaningful idea that the Facebook brings is..
let people to stay connected with our friends,
even when they have started a new journey in another world.
This keeps us from forgetting about our friend and the good memories too soon.
This revitalizes some deep emotion connections that always get worn out too quickly in our hectic life overwhelmed by work and stresses.
We all try to slowly convert the painful loss to a sublimed reminisce of our dear friend.
A joke.
A joke is to make people laugh.
But what if it does the opposite?
It initiates this painful realization of a cruel fact,
and disturb all the seemingly serenity in your life?
When a joke reinforces the fact that the storyteller does not care about your feeling all that much,
Is that still a joke?
Sure it is, at least in the eyes of the storyteller.
Graingering with Carol, prob. the first and last time having this activity together.
Time flies. So stop watching the trace we left behind,
because it will soon be washed away by time.
A week left in cornfields. I still do not know how I feel.
Is there anything that I will miss?
or
Is there anything that I am looking forward to?

Inside the cake
They attempt to allure me into this dream which will end some days, sooner or later.
Me, who do not have enough confident in my own instinct anymore, believe in those dreams.
And when the truth reveals itself, it becomes a double stupidity and pain.
Pieces of memories, fractures of happiness, pierced through my heart every second the feeling strained.
I regreted to diminish my instinct and trusted.
I regreted to ignore all the objective facts and believed.
Should I defense or accept?
Should I be aware or trust?
2010年4月19日 星期一
How far can you stretch it?
Everyone has a limit. But how far can you stretch it?
What is the objective?
Sometimes limits are there to be challenged.
Other times limits are intimdating lines that make people hesitate to go forward.
However, not all these lines are real, some of them are self-imposed imaginery lines, becos of the circle we are in , the forever shrinking interaction network of people we see, and the fear of losing the affliation, the bond.
You can be dumb, weak, shy, anti social, but please, dun be souless.
From time to time, I get lost , confused, disconnected, but what matter is, I search for my goal and continue my path with a direction, right or wrong, chosen by myself.
Today, I heard, and have been trying to believe," besides all that, I am still your good friend. nothing has changed."

I used two nights to finish the whole drama.
Suprisingly, I get something important out of it.
There are tons of external factors ( you may say fate, or timing, or geographical etc...), which we can't control of. So instead of pressing so hard to achieve your ultimate goal, the best way is to enjoy the process and this MOMENT. Leave no regret.

Time only washes away the bitterness, leaving all the good memories in heart.
Never spent time with Nicole one-to-one before.

In the same way,

I misses Yanyin's big carefree grins, and hope to see those much more next time we meet up.
Sometimes we are all so focused on things we do not have and forget how to smile for the simple happiness.

Then, one day we deviate, and never be the same.
Maybe,
the only solution, is to let go.
But, I want to believe in my own memories. And hold tight to it. How about you? Are you feeling the same way? When you do not feel the same way, what is, then, the significance of me keeping the memories?
10 things that you do not know about me Vs 1000 things that you know about me without talking.

The Unexpected.
To me, this is undescribably conceptual. Should I just accept the theory, or consider the practicality?
Is this, what I want?
It is like when you decide to get a pair of Louboutin heels, but someone gives you a pair of Jimmy choo. Jimmy choo is gorgeous, but what was in your mind is Louboutin. It just doesn't feel right even the Jimmy Choo fits perfectly.

What can do with the metal strip on a bread bag?
Thanks my dear Carol, I will always remember what you said.
Thanks for people who talk to me about it, support me, bring me home, give me place to hang, have dinner with me, skyping me.
Grey, white or black ?
Pens are always better in expression than keyboards.
Flow of thoughts simply works in pens.
It is just like relationship among people.
Face-to-face is always better than skype, msn , gchat, sms, phone etc .. etc...
The eye contact, the facial expression, the brainwave mean much more than words, nudges, smiley icons.
But we all are attracted to and fall into this ever expanding addiction to all communications shortcuts but face-to-face talks.
Not because that it is the internet age, not becuase it is efficient.
It is because, subconsciously, all of us are losing the confidence of trusting people at the first moment of receiving responses, losing our guts to face the most truthful truth, which always reveals itself in people's eyes.
Then we get addicted to all these IM shorcuts because we get addicted to the perfect diguise of the ugly truth and pretty lies, the hollow happiness and solid pain, the serious joke and blissful complaints.
Yes, I am one of those people addicted to the world of hallucination.
But, I want always the truthful truth, happy or sad.
If this world does not only have black and white with tons of grey, I would prefer not to deal with anything greyish black, whitish grey, or blackish white.
Let just keep it, grey, white or black!
Life seems to get back into a more blissful stage. I love just hang out with my friends, without complications, implications, and falsification. When you dare to execute something painful, there is a bigger chance for a happier reward.
Come on.
You know it, from Newton.
Action and Reaction.
They are always in pair.
